Martin Appelt ‘GOLDDIGGER’ SS20 collection showcases designer’s unique take on the establishment, through a smart play on luxury fashion symbols. Characterized by the fashion critics as a “joyfully ironic,” the collection has been beautifully received by media at Milan Fashion Week.
To critics, Martin Appelt’s ironic take on the ever so popular LV Neverfull bag and Chanel’s 2.55 classic flap purse, were unexpected statements of conscious opulence and rebellion against the wasteful boomer generation. However, to the general public, Martin’s dresses were more than playful interpretations but genuinely gorgeous eco-friendly dresses made from apple leather.
“Tension develops by deconstructing classic shapes, which then, get infused with lust,” explains the designer. “It is the fusion of the different design approaches and the contrary influences in my upbringing,” continues Martin Appelt.
Apart from playful, bold, and joyfully ironic designs, Martin Appelt GOLDDIGGER SS20 collection showcases designer’s love for American pop-culture and TV shows:
“I don’t want to take myself too seriously. To me, humour is the most important thing, that’s why I combine class with trash, always placing the customer at the centre of attention.”
