Henlen Watch, the world’s first interchangeable smartwatch.
Modern watches, – read smartwatches – have evolved a lot over the last few years. From the geeky-looking gadget, strapped to your wrist, to the fine timepieces of these days.
When asked what makes them prefer smartwatches over the classic ones, most smartwatch buyers indicated “the power of customisation” as the number one appealing factor when deciding between the two.
In that light, Henlen Watches, a Canadian startup, wants to give their buyers extra options when it comes to customising their smartwatches. A few days ago the team launched a Kickstarter campaign featuring the world’s first interchangeable smartwatch. Intrigued? Well, see below all the details.
Henlen Watch – Design And Features
Where Henlen watch differs from all the smartwatches available on the market right now is its core. Called “the cell”, the core is, in fact, the smart module of the watch that can be removed and used with different cases, bracelets, and new design configs. The cell can be transplanted from one watch into another while retaining the functions of the watch.
The cell that powers the Henlen watch features a 1.39-inch 400 x 400 AMOLED screen, protected by a Gorilla Glass. It also has a 1.2GHz dual-core Mediatek CPU and 572MB of RAM. Plus, it packs a heart rate monitor, 4GB of internal storage and a large 450 mAh battery.
The Cell can be used with any of the four planned watch designs, available as part of the “Origin Series” collection. At the moment, we have pictures just for two of the watch designs. The rugged looking Commander designs and the more “low-key” Covert styles. For more pics, see the gallery at the end of the article.

Leaving the hardware aside, the Helen watch runs on a modified version of the classic Android OS. The UI has a layered system that allows you to check on the general info first before deciding if you want to tap on the short info for extended details. The watch can display notifications for SMS, missed calls and also for third-party apps like WhatsApp, Snapchat, Facebook and so on.
The companion app is going to be available for both Android and iOS phones. From the app you can adjust settings, change the watch faces – software faces – and get access to the Henlen store to buy new watch bodies and watch faces.
Henlen Watch – Price And Availability
The price of the watch starts at $185 thanks to the Early Bird discount and goes up to $475 for the Collectors Edition. The delivery times are set for next year, in Feb 2017.
