Gender-Neutral Fashion. Although gender-free fashion is nothing new, showcased in fashion magazines and taking runway stage for years, retail spaces that embrace the concept were seen – until lately – quite a serious financial risk.
However, according to Pew’s research, over 36 per cent of Generation Z knows at least one person who prefers gender-neutral pronouns and who identifies as non-binary gender. The numbers are rising for millennials and even for Generation X’ers and retailers, in particular, fashion sellers, are taking notice.
Similarly, Fashion Institute of Technology professor Dawnn Karen believes that gender-neutral fashion is the future, and the Phluid Project located in Manhattan’s Soho neighbourhood, proves her right, launched as the first gender-free store in New York.
