Blockchain shoes – if it can be made into digital, it will become digital. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has just awarded Nike a blockchain patent that allows the footwear giant from Oregon to create, register, and track the digital versions of its shoes.
Nike said that the invention allows its customers to register the shoes they purchase with a unique identification number. It works by creating an equivalent digital version of the shoe purchased, through a cryptocurrency wallet connected with the buyers’ unique ID.
Nike’s ‘blockchain shoes’ invention will help buyers to verify the authenticity of the products they are purchasing, among many more other benefits, reads Nike’s paper published on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website on Tuesday.
As additional features, the blockchain has information about the physical features of the product; colour, material used, manufacturing details, and its ‘sustainability‘ grade.
