Is there a place for cruelty-free makeup labels in this world? It seems like, as consumers are growing increasingly conscious about the problems caused by the beauty and fashion industry.

Truth be told, it is our problem too. As consumers, we have an insatiable appetite for fast-fashion. We are also quite careless when it comes to makeup products tested on animals.

The beauty segment has been the main culprit in testing toxic chemicals on animals, sometimes with horrific consequences. Finally, with the help of media, consumers are opting to support cruelty-free makeup brands.

And yet, while big brands like The Body Shop and Lush have also shifted to cruelty-free and organic beauty products, when it comes to product availability the offering is still quite limited.

That’s why I’ve put together ten cruelty-free makeup brands that I am sure you’ll love this coming winter — no need to compromise again. You, too, can look fabulous while upholding your moral stance.

1. FLOWER Beauty

Started as a passion project by the American actress Drew Barrymore, FLOWER beauty has created a line of cruelty-free makeup cosmetics of the highest quality.

Also, Flower Beauty products sold at an affordable price and parts of profits are donated by the company towards female empowerment. So if supporting other women and animal welfare resonate with you, make sure you choose Flower from now on.

2. Illamasqua Cruelty-Free Makeup

“Beauty, not brutality” read on Illamasqua website. Recognised by PETA, this brand is completely cruelty-free and proud to have an extensive, ever-growing vegan range.

Illamasqua is a trendy cruelty-free makeup known worldwide for its passionate support for animal welfare and other related causes. The brand does not test on animals, and it always makes sure that all of its products are one hundred percent cruelty-free.

I’ve used Illamasqua for three months, and my ten has changed so much, can’t recommend them enough.

3. Burt’s Bees Cruelty-Free Makeup

Another brand that commercialises cruelty-free makeup and is certified by PETA is Burt’s Bees. Apart from using only natural products with an accent on bees products, the brand does not test on animals at all.

Moreover, Burt’s Bees strives to ensure that its cruelty-free makeups contain only organically sourced and sustainable ingredients.

If you love your skin, you have to give Burt’s Bees a try.

4. Ciaté Cruelty-Free Makeup

Ciate was founded in 2009 by the celebrity nail technician Charlotte Knight, initially as a nail brand. Ever since Ciaté has successfully expanded to become a world-renowned beauty brand.

PETA certified Ciate’s cruelty-free makeup products are out of this world. Give them a try.

5. ColourPop Cruelty-Free Makeup

ColourPop was founded in 2014 by Seed Beauty, and it markets itself as a Proudly American cruelty-free makeup company.

It also calls itself a “wallet-friendly and bunny approved” brand, in reference to its cruelty-free practices.

“We test our products in the nicest way possible, leaving fur babies to be fur babies and experimenting on people instead (the people at ColourPop HQ to be exact!)” reads the website.

6. Hourglass Cruelty-Free Makeup

Revered as a high-end cruelty-free makeup brand, Hourglass is known for its brilliant products.

However, the brand has another reason it should be in the spotlight as it refuses to sell its products in countries that require animal testing.

The brand’s choice to sell to certain countries only reminds me of the ever so rare and unique Limited London luxury fashion label. This London-based label refuses to ship abroad to reduce pollution and CO2 emission.

The brand only makes unique fashion pieces, all by hand. Once create and purchased, the product is only shipped by bicycle or by foot, and in London alone.

If interested in their amazing products, you’ll have to fly your ass to London, and pick their unique creations yourself! Isn’t that amazing?

7. Barry M Cruelty-Free Makeup

The multi-coloured beauty brand Barry M is loved by expert makeup artists worldwide. Barry M has some of the highest quality products and cruelty-free makeups that are lasting for ages.

The brand does not test on animals as the company claims on their site: ‘Here, at Barry M, we love cosmetics. But we love animals more.’ How beautiful is that?

8. Marc Jacobs Beauty

Marc Jacobs Beauty arm is named after the creator and visionary designer behind the brand with the same name. Even from the beginning, the brand wanted to inspire buyers to “push boundaries” and create their fashion style.

Similarly, the beauty products are of high quality, and best of all, are cruelty-free.

The brand writes on its website, “Marc Jacobs Beauty is a cruelty-free makeup and cosmetics brand. We never test on animals or use ingredients tested on animals; nor do we ask vendors to test on our behalf.”

9. Anastasia Beverly Hills Cruelty-Free Makeup

As a curiosity to some but based on ethical considerations Anastasia Beverly Hills is not sold in China. And yet, this is a brand loved by celebrity makeup artists’ and beauty enthusiasts from all over the world.

So much so, that Anastasia Beverly Hills products have become a staple to the genuine cruelty-free makeup artist.

I personally love their Brow Wiz, find them the best of everything I’ve tried so far.

10. By Terry Cruelty-Free Makeup

Last on my list, but not least, we have the By Terry, cruelty-free makeup brand.
